Museums & Art In Rancho Cucamonga

Casa De Rancho Cucamonga

Casa De Rancho Cucamonga is where Rancho Cucamonga earned its place in history. Travel back to the early nineteenth century to a site that was designated for cattle grazing by the Mission Gabriel. The Mexican Governor granted land rights to Tiburcio Tapia, a wealthy Los Angeles merchant, who erected its first structure, an adobe style house.

Tapia’s daughter later sold the house to John Rains and his wife. In 1860, Rains constructed a burnt brick structure on the property that served as a luxury home for him and his wealthy heiress wife, strategically placed where all roads and trails converged. Later, Rains was murdered, likely over the property, and rights to the land were granted to Ramon Carillo, who was accused of the Rains murder, but found innocent. Carillo was then also killed in an unsolved murder.

Although the property was “to die for” in the nineteenth century, it is now a modern museum, historic landmark, and the perfect place for getting in touch with the history of Rancho Cucamonga.
